The site of President of Azerbaijan Republic

The foreign relations of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic continually improves and develops as an integral part of the Republic of Azerbaijan against the background of dynamically improving foreign relations of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Since the state independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on 18 October 1991 for the second time, the relations of the autonomous republic with neighboring countries as well as other distant and near countries have been founded, and substantial successes have been achieved in order to strengthen reciprocal fruitful cooperation.      

  • On November 06, 1991, Nikolai Sham, deputy chief of State Security Committee of USSR, and Aleksandr Bessonov, head of division of USSR Central Border Department, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. Representatives met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR and conducted discussions on political processes in Nakhchivan.

  • On December 27, 1991, Eni B.Greyter and A.Obri, officials of the Embassy of USA in Moscow, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. Diplomats met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR so as to get information about democratic processes in Nakhchivan.

  • On July 11, 1992, some deputies of the Republic of Byelorussia paid a visit to Nakhchivan. Deputies met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR in the course of the visit.

  • On July 23, 1992, V.Kazimirov, head of mediation mission of the Russian Federation on the Nagorno Karabagh conflict, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. In the course of the visit, the representative met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On February 04, 1993, Richard Miles, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. The ambassador met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On February 18, 1993, Bryan Foll, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to Russia, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. In the course of the visit, the ambassador met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On March 11, 1993, Harold Funston, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. The ambassador met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On March 20, 1993, Jan Perrine, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. The ambassador met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • In the summer of 1997, delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan led by Vasif Talibov, the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR, paid a visit to the USA. During the visit, neat and comprehensive information about Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic was delivered to the representatives of USA Senate and government. Besides, careful consideration was given to the Nagorno Karabagh conflict during the discussions.

  • On February 18, 1998, the representatives of "DEU Telecom Ltd." company visited Nakhchivan. As part of visit, an agreement on upgrading the telecommunication system of autonomous republic in pair with modern standards was signed between the government of Nakhchivan AR and company.

  • On June 14-15, 1999, Jan Pierre Gnyut, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. In the course of the visit, the ambassador met with the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On July 25, 2001, Jan Pierre Gnyut, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. The ambassador met with the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR in the course of the visit.

  • On May 24-25, 2003, Ross Wilson, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. The ambassador met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On May 03-04, 2004, Shantal Puare, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. In the course of the visit, the ambassador met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On July 06-07, 2004, Reno Garnish, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. In the course of the visit, the ambassador met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On November 14-17, 2005, Kshishtof Krayevsky, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. The ambassador met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR in the course of the visit.

  • On April 06-07, 2006, Arthur Lenk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. In the course of the visit, the ambassador met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On April 18, 2006, Jonathan Henik, public relations counsellor of the US Embassy in Baku, visited Nakhchivan. During the visit, he was received by the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On May 21-22, 2006, Temistokles Dimidis, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Greece to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. In the course of the visit, the ambassador met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On May 30-31, 2006, Steiner Gill, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. In the course of the visit, the ambassador met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On August 06, 2006, Kirsan Ilumjinov, President of the Republic of Kalmikiya of the Russian Federation and President of International Chess Federation, paid a visit to Nakhchivan and met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On September 05-07, 2006, Lyu Kvang Chul, Charge d'affair of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. The diplomat was received by the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On September 12-13, 2006, Jioti Swarup Pande, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. In the course of the visit, the ambassador met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On September 25-27, 2006, David Haugen, political affairs counsellor of the US Embassy in Baku, visited Nakhchivan. During the visit, he met with the Head of Executive of Nakhchivan city.

  • On October 06-07, 2006, Bernard Amodrik d'Chauffet, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. In the course of the visit, the ambassador met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On October 26-28, 2006, Kshishtof Krayevsky, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid his second visit to Nakhchivan. The ambassador again met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On November 23-24, 2006, Ion Robu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. In the course of the visit, the ambassador met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On December 14-15, 2006, Nikolai Paskevich, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Byelorussia to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. In the course of the visit, the ambassador met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On June 03-06, 2007, Vasif Talibov, Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR, pay a business visit to Shtriya region of the Republic of Austria upon the invitation of the government of Austria. The purpose of visit was to establish cooperation on the fields of economy, culture, education, tourism and etc. between Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan and Shtriya province of Austria. During the visit, the Chairman met with Frantz Valves, governor of Shtriya province, Shigfrid Shrittvizer, chairman of Parliament of Shtriya province, Zgfrid Nagl, mayor of Graz city, and Gilbert Fritsberg, vice-president of Shtriya Trade Chamber.

  • On November 14-17, 2007, Vasif Talibov, Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR, pay a visit to the Northern Cyprus Turkish Republic upon the invitation of Mehmet Ali Talat, President of the state. In the course of the visit, the Chairman met with M.A.Talat, President of the Northern Cyprus Turkish Republic and madam Fatma Ekenoghlu, chairman of the parliament.

  • On October 18-19, 2007, jubilee events dedicated to 40-year of Nakhchivan State University were held. Along with officials and scholars of the autonomous republic, many notable scholars from Turkey, Russia, Pakistan, USA, Georgia, Poland, France and Iran participated in the events.

  • On July 06-07, 2007, doctors of Endocrinology Department of the Hospital of Patras University of the Republic of Greece and delegation accompanying them visited Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

  • On October 17, 2007, J.Blatter, president of FIFA, and M.Platini, president of UEFA, visited Nakhchivan in order to meet with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during his visit to Nakhchivan. H.E. President received guests in the building of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR. Furthermore, the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR participated in the meeting.

  • On November 26-27, 2007, Imam Muhammad Baghdadi and Jalal Said Al-Hifnavi, scholars representing Egyptian Cultural Center of the Cairo and Al-Azhar universities of the Arabic Republic of Egypt in Baku, visited Nakhchivan. They participated in the opening of the Arabic language and literature section attached to eastern languages and literature department at Nakhchivan State University and in the international symposium on "Azerbaijan-Egypt relations" held at university under the framework of Egyptian days.

  • On July 17-18, 2007, captain Conrad Zeman, the deputy defense attaché and military-marine forces attaché of the Embassy of Germany to the Russian Federation accredited to Azerbaijan as well, and his assistant Robert Fingerlos visited Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

  • On September 27, 2007, Rebecca Naslund, political affairs counselor of the US Embassy in Baku, paid a visit to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

  • On November 07, 2007, Ann Dersie, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the delegation accompanying her paid a visit to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

  • On December 26-27, 2007, Masamitsu Oki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhcivan. In the course of the visit, the ambassador was received by the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On December 11, 2007, Joan Polashnik, first secretary of the US Embassy in Baku, visited the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

  • On January 23-26, 2008, Youssif Ahmed Al-Sharkavi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arabic Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan. In the course of the visit, the ambassador was received by the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • The head of the Nakhchivan AR section of Social Union of disabled persons, veterans of Karabagh war and martyr families, as well as scholars from the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, took part in the event on Khojaly genocide held in Berlin, Germany, on 23-26 February 2008.

  • On March 20, 2008, Youssif Ahmed Al-Sharkavi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arabic Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid his second visit to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In the course of the visit, the ambassador Al-Sharkavi met with the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On March 20, 2008, the international symposium called as "Novruz in the world" was held by Nakhchivan State University. Youssif Ahmed Al-Sharkavi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arabic Republic of Egypt in Azerbaijan, professors of Cairo University Muhammad Sibai and Jalal Hifnavi, and Dr. Muammer Jubeyit from Helvan University, academicians Hamdi Mahruz and Hani Assisi from Nakhchivan State University and the representative of Kars-Caucasus University of Turkey were participated in the symposium.

  • On April 16-17, 2008, Vasily Stratov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Vasily Khamaza, chairman of the board of the "NIKoil" Investment Commercial Bank being financed by Russian capital, and two officials of the Russian Embassy paid a visit to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In the course of the visit, the ambassador and the representatives accompanying him were received by the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan AR.

  • On November 17-19, 2008, Abdul Hamid, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In the course of the visit, the ambassador was received by the Chairman of Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

  • On April 22-24, 2009, the delegation led by Siegfried Schrittwieser, the Chairman of the Parliament of the Austrian Federal State of Styria, and comprising federal government representatives, businessmen and media representatives, paid a visit to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In the course of the visit, government officials were received by the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and met with the Prime Minister of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. During the meeting, moreover, business forum was held with the participation of Austrian businessmen and local entrepreneurs.

  • On 25-26 May 2009, Gabriel Keller, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of France to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In the course of the visit, the ambassador was received by the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

  • On 18-19 June 2009, Nikolay Patskevich, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In the course of the visit, the ambassador was received by the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

  • On August 4, 2009, the heads of the missions of international organizations in the Republic of Azerbaijan visited Nakhchivan on the occasion of 85th jubilee events of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In the course of the visit, the representatives attended to the ceremonial event in Heydar Aliyev Palace dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Mr. President Ilham Aliyev participated in the event as well. Furthermore, the guests got acquainted with the health-care centers and sport complexes as well as ancient historical monuments of the Nakhchivan city.

  • On 08-09 September 2009, Ioannis Metaxas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Greece to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In the course of the visit, the ambassador was received by the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

  • On 16-17 September 2009, Jon Ramberg, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In the course of the visit, the ambassador was received by the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

  • On October 2, 2009, Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, Abdullah Gul of Turkey, Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan and Kurmanbek Bakiyev of Kyrgyzstan visited Nakhchivan to participate in the 9th Summit of the Turkic-speaking Countries` Heads of State. On 2 October 2009, concert dedicated to the participants of the Summit was held in Heydar Aliyev Palace, Nakhchivan city. On 3 October 2009, alongside the presidents, Khydyr Saparliyev, vice-chairman of Turkmenistan's Cabinet of Ministers, participated in the 9th Summit of the Turkic-speaking Countries` Heads of State. Presidents thereafter signed the Nakhchivan Agreement on Establishment of Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking Countries and the Nakhchivan Declaration as result of the Summit.

  • On 27-29 October 2009, Mrs. Carolyn Browne, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In the course of the visit, the ambassador was received by the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

  • On 19-21 November 2009, head of Consular section and 1st Secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Azerbaijan visited Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for the purpose of general acquaintance.

  • In early December 2009, the Cooperation Memorandum was signed between Nakhchivan State University and Graz Karl Frantsenes University in Graz, Austria.

  • On 8-10 December 2009, "Azerbaijan Investment Summit" was held in London, UK, with joint organization of the "Adam Smith Conferences" company and the Trade and Industry Chamber of Azerbaijan. Economic development minister and an owner from the Nakhchivan AR attended to the event.

  • On December 17, 2009, the conference dedicated to the 85th jubilee of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic was held in the Moscow State International Relations Institute of the Russian Foreign Ministry. Nakhchivan was represented in the event by the delegation headed by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Autonomous Republic.

  • On January 12, 2010, J.Ganson, political counselor of the US Embassy in Azerbaijan, and L.Hansen, 1st secretary of the Norwegian Embassy in Azerbaijan, paid a call to Nakhchivan.

  • On 21-22 February 2010, Terry Davidson, Public Affairs Officer of the US Embassy in Azerbaijan, paid a visit to Nakhchivan.

  • On March 16, 2010, presentation, press conference and official reception of the Austria-Azerbaijan Chamber of Trade was held in Baku. Upon the invitation the economic development minister of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and the President of "Cahan Holding" took part in the events.

  • On 25-27 April 2010, Jan Lucas Inayat van Hoorn, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid a visit to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In the course of the visit, the ambassador was received by the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

  • On 06-07 May 2010, Simon Tonge, deputy of the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the United Kingdom to Azerbaijan, and Paul Doubleday, British Council Director for South Caucasus, as well as ambassador's assistant for political affairs paid a visit to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In the course of the visit, the delegates were received by the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

  • On 13-14 May 2010, several events were held in St. Petersburg, Russia, upon the 87th birthday of the Azerbaijani people's national leader Heydar Aliyev and the 85th jubilee of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic by joint organization of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly, Russia Office of Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Consulate-General of Azerbaijan in St. Petersburg. The delegation led by the Head of Administration of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Supreme Assembly participated in the events.

  • On 27-30 May 2010, the 14th international symposium of Asian Universities was held in Sias International University of China. Rector of Nakhchivan State University I.Habibbayli participated and gave a lecture in the symposium. Furthermore, the protocol on mutual cooperation was signed between Nakhchivan State University and Sias International University.
