Nakhchivan was declared to be Islamic Cultural Capital in 2018
On October 13-15, 2009, the 6-th Conference of Cultural Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) was held in Baku city within the framework of "Baku - The Capital of Islamic Culture - 2009". More than 200 delegates including 25 ministers, 11 deputy ministers as well as 18 representatives from international organizations took part in the conference. Several important issues challenging OIC members were discussed in high-level organized conference, and adopted decisions were reflected in final documents. Azerbaijani monuments which have been destroyed as result of Armenian invasion were also included in the document regarding the protection of Islamic cultural monuments being under threat.
