On January 19, 2010, Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic received the Chief of International Organization for Migration Mission in Azerbaijan On January 19, 2010, Mr. Vasif Talibov, Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, received Vasiliy Yuzhanin, Chief of International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Azerbaijan, Martin Lenk, new head of IOM Office in Nakhchivan, and Lucie Dupertuis, former head of IOM Office in Nakhchivan. The Chairman of the Supreme Assembly mentioned that mutual relations with IOM in recent years have been fruitful for Nakhchivan, most importantly, renovation of kahrizes, which have been served people for long years, turns out to be significant for the autonomous republic. Furthermore, this program has been further developed and has born good results during the Lucie Dupertuis term in Nakhchivan Office. Besides, important role of the support of Head Office of IOM, Mission in Azerbaijan, in this success was also underlined. The Chairman of the Supreme Assembly expressed his assurance that new appointment will contribute to the successful follow-up of the works being conducted in the autonomous republic and will further strengthen mutual relations. He expressed his gratefulness to Lucie Dupertuis for her works in Nakhchivan and wished successes to Martin Lenk, new head of Nakhchivan Office, in his new work-term. Vasiliy Yuzhanin, Chief of IOM Mission in Azerbaijan, mentioned that, in accordance with the project, renovation works have been carried out in 59 kahrizes of the autonomous republic, and 39 of them have been put into operation following renovation works. He valued these works as fruitful result of mutual relations with the autonomous republic government. It was noted that, alongside 59 kahrizes, more 10 kahrizes are determined for renovation. Local people and experts closely facilitate work of the Office. In order to establish more efficient relations with experts and to learn the kahrizes network of the autonomous republic, international conference on "Kahriz Systems as Architectural Monument, Sustainable Source of Water and Factor of Social and Economical Development" was held in the Nakhchivan State University in September 2009. Renovation of kahrizes was fairly underscored and the works to this end were discussed in the conference. As a fruit of mutual cooperation, a book on kahrizes was issued jointly by scholars and experts of Nakhchivan State University. That book will be a textbook in universities. Chief of Mission said that two new kahrizes in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic are planned to be dug within the framework of the project and one of them is already started. Vasiliy Yuzhanin said that in every visit he witness tremendous constructive works in Nakhchivan. He, moreover, expressed his gratitude for the support to the implementation of the project. Back
