On 20 June 2018, Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Chairman of the Organizing Committee established due to the declaration of Nakhchivan city as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2018, Mr. Vasif Talibov met with the Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Mr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, and representatives of foreign countries coming to the autonomous republic to attend the opening ceremony of "Nakhchivan - Capital of Islamic Culture -2018".

Sincerely welcoming the guests, Chairman of the Supreme Assembly thanked the initiators of choosing Nakhchivan city as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2018.

It was noted that, since 2009, with the attention and support of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the work on the election of the Capital of Islamic Culture in the city of Nakhchivan was successfully carried out.

During the recent years, historical monuments of Turkic-Islamic culture have been restored, books about Islam and its values have been published.

The logo and souvenirs of "Capital of Islamic Culture Nakhchivan-2018" were also prepared, and badges, envelopes and postage stamps were depicted on the logo.

Speaking about the ancient history of Nakhchivan-homeland of the prophet Noah, the work done to preserve religious values and the development of Turkic-Islamic culture, the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly emphasized the importance of Nakhchivan's election as Capital of Islamic Culture and expressed confidence that the "Islamic Capital of Nakhchivan-2018" events would be successful.

Thanking for the warm hospitality towards the delegation, Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Mr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri made remarks on selected cities of Islamic Culture and the work done on this project.

Emphasizing the importance of Nakhchivan's rich historical and cultural heritage and the importance of promoting Islamic values, Mr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri said that the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization will continue to attach importance to cooperation with Nakhchivan.

Minister of culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee established due to the declaration of Nakhchivan city as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2018 Mr. Abulfes Garayev said that Islamic countries were represented by high-level representatives and had great interest in the event.

Mr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri presented the symbolic logo prepared by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization on the proclamation of Nakhchivan City as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2018 to Mr. Vasif Talibov, Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
