On 7 July 2021, Mr. Vasif Talibov, Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic met with Mr. Jahit Bagchi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Sincerely welcoming the Ambassador, Chairman of the Supreme Assembly congratulated him on the occasion of beginning of his diplomatic mission in our country and expressed satisfaction over his visit to Nakhchivan. Highly appreciating Azerbaijan-Turkey friendly and fraternal relations, Chairman of the Supreme Assembly made remarks on the special role of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in bilateral relations, development of cooperation in various sectors and mentioned the importance of opening Zangazur corridor and construction of Kars-Nakhchivan railway.

Chairman of the Supreme Assembly noted that relations between two countries had reached a new level, remembering that the Shusha Declaration was based on the Treaty of Kars signed a hundred years ago, and expressed confidence that Mr. Ambassador would spare no effort to further develop Azerbaijani-Turkish relations.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Jahit Bagchi conveyed his congratulations on the historic victory in the Second Karabakh War and wished mercy to the martyrs. Emphasizing that the victory once again highlighted the strategic importance of Nakhchivan, which is called "Turkish Gate", Jahit Bagchi described Azerbaijani-Turkish relations as a continuation of the relations established between two countries by national leader Heydar Aliyev and former Turkish President Suleyman Demirel.

         During the conversation, the sides exchanged views on certain issues of mutual interests.
