On 30 January 2021, the meeting was held between Mr. Vasif Talibov, Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and the delegation led by Mr. Mohammad Javad Zarif, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Sincerely welcoming the guests, Chairman of the Supreme Assembly expressed satisfaction over seeing them in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and stressed the importance of his visit to the autonomous republic.
Thanking for the sincere attitude, Mohammad Javad Zarif noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches great importance to the relations with Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Noting that his final destination during the visit of Azerbaijan is its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the Minister said that the Islamic Republic of Iran was very happy with the liberation of Karabakh. Mr.Zarif noted that the purpose of his visit was to discuss the establishment of peace between the countries of the region and new opportunities for cooperation. Expressing hope for the organization of multilateral cooperation in the region for the near future, the Minister noted that Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is very important in terms of the unification of the region.
Making remarks on the relations between Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran, Chairman of the Supreme Assembly stated that the end of Armenia's policy of aggression opened wide opportunities for the region. In this regard, Nakhchivan is the logistics center of the region. Regional cooperation could had been started 30 years ago. However, Armenia's long-term policy of aggression has seriously prevented the development of the region.
During the conversation, the sides exchanged views on certain issues of mutual interests.
